Coins

Coins are the permanent currency on Alinea. They exist in two denominations: gold coins (gc) and copper coins (cc). One gold coin is worth 100 copper coins.

Coins do not expire and can be saved indefinitely. They are primarily used for player-to-player trading, buying and selling items in shops, and for settling fines. Most player-run shops accept coins and price their goods in gc or cc.

Landscrips

Unlike coins, landscrips (ls) expire and cannot be stored indefinitely.

Landscrips are the primary currency for taxes. Provinces must pay their provincial taxes using landscrips (sometimes alongside coins), which makes landscrips central to how land is allocated and maintained on the server. Provinces typically forward this cost to their citizens through local taxes. Because of their temporary nature, most shops do not accept landscrips for regular trade.

Earning currency through playtime

Some currency is earned simply by playing the game. These "daily rewards" encourage consistent play, and are funded primarily through provincial taxes. By creating a loop where playing earns currency, which in turn funds provinces that provide land and services, we ensure that active players can always find a place to build, while inactive players will eventually lose their land.

Earning coins

Each day that a player plays for at least 10 minutes, the player builds a daily streak. Coin rewards are based on the length of this streak.

• +1 cc for 2–4 day streak
• +2 cc for 5–9 day streak
• +3 cc for 10–14 day streak
• +4 cc for 15–19 day streak
• +5 cc for 20+ day streak

If a player skips a day, their streak is lost.

Because the number of gc/cc that can be earned through streaks is small, players will typically earn most of their coins through trading and other player-run activities.

Earning landscrips

Players earn landscrips by being active on the server. Playing for at least 10 minutes in a day grants 5 ls. Additional landscrips are earned for longer play sessions:

• +1 ls for 30 minutes
• +1 ls for 60 minutes
• +1 ls for 90 minutes
• +1 ls for 120 minutes
• +1 ls for 180 minutes

There is a hard cap of 50 ls per player per week. Any landscrips earned beyond this cap are discarded.

Collecting rewards

Daily rewards are collected from the reward bank in Town Hall. The reward bank has a limited capacity of 10 ls and 10 cc. If the reward bank is full, any additional rewards earned while it is full are discarded. Players are encouraged to collect their rewards regularly.
