Code of Conduct
This code of conduct sets out what we expect of one another, so that Alinea can be a community many different people can be part of. It applies to the entire community, wherever it gathers, on Discord, in Minecraft, or anywhere else.
This document gets its authority from the moderation team. It is not perfect, as nothing is, and the team may deviate from it when it believes that this would be better for the community.
Principles
We organise this code of conduct into six principles.
Take responsibility
You are responsible for your actions, regardless of your intentions, and for everything done with your account. It is up to you to understand and apply these principles. Do not help or encourage others to undermine them.
Co-exist
Alinea brings together many different people. Naturally, not everyone may get along. People can disagree. However, no matter how strongly you feel about something, people are never the target. Attacks on who someone is, such as racism, sexism, or homophobia, have no place here.
Most conflict can be solved by the people involved. Give each other space, and stop when someone asks you to. When that is not enough, or your boundaries are not being respected, the moderation team is there to help.
Respect public spaces
Alinea has many different spaces, and not everything belongs everywhere. Public spaces are shared with everyone, including our youngest. What is fine in a private conversation is not always fine in public. Do not post any illicit or inappropriate content, do not spam, and do not disrupt in any other way.
Respect privacy
Other people's personal information is theirs to share, not yours. What is safe to share for one person can be dangerous for another, and once something is out, it cannot be taken back. Do not press others for personal details, and take extra care with the privacy of our youngest.
Before you record or stream, ask everyone who will be seen or heard in it for their consent. Announcing that you are recording is not enough; everyone in it must agree.
Do not advertise
Our community is not your audience, in public or in private, whether you are promoting a product, another community, a YouTube channel, or anything else. People join to be part of a community, not somebody's market, and this community is not a launch pad for someone else's.
You may share your own Alinea videos and streams by linking to alinea.gg. To promote anything else, ask an administrator first.
Respect the authority of the moderation team
Leave enforcing this code of conduct to the moderation team, and stay out of cases that do not involve you. Do not claim authority you do not have, and do not impersonate anyone, especially not moderators. Be honest with the team, accept its decisions, and do not argue frivolously about them.
Getting help
If something or someone makes you uncomfortable, or there is something else you want to report, reach out to the team by creating a ticket on our Discord server. Please do not message moderators individually; a single moderator may be busy or away, but a ticket reaches the whole team at once.
Is your problem with a member of the moderation team? Reach out privately to a team member you trust.
Enforcement
When responding to a problem, the team weighs someone's positive contributions to the community against the negative. This can make enforcement come across as more restrictive towards newer people, who have had less time to contribute.
Intentions are taken into account too; they do not remove responsibility, but they help decide the response. All bans, however, are permanent.
