Unstable Enchantments
On Alinea, nearly all enchantments can go beyond their Vanilla Minecraft level limitations. This is only possible by combining enchanted books in an anvil. When an enchantment goes beyond its normal level contraints, it will turn unstable. Unstable enchantments have to be polished before they can be applied to tools, armour and equipment.
On this page you can find an overview of the unstable enchantment system.
Unstable Enchanted Books

When two enchanted books of an enchantment are combined in an anvil in a way that the enchantment would surpass its normal enchantment limit, the enchanted book will turn unstable. Unstable enchanted books cannot be used on equiment, and need to be turned into polished enchanted books first.
Not every enchantment can turn unstable.
Crafting unstable enchanted books can be a very expensive endervour, and they are typically considered end-game items. Below is a table showing how many level I books are needed to create a book of every level. At what level the book will turn unstable depends on the enchantment on the book.

A polished enchanted book can be obtained by applying enchantment polish to an unstable enchanted book in an anvil. Unlike its unstable variant, a polished enchanted book can be applied to tools, armour, and other equipment. For every level that an unstable enchanted book has above the stable enchantment limit, you will need one enchantment polish. For example, an Efficiency VII, Stone Grafter XV book will need 7 enchantment polish.
