Unstable Enchanting System
Overview
On Alinea, nearly all enchantments can exceed their Vanilla Minecraft level limitations. This is only possible by combining enchanted books in an anvil. When an enchantment surpasses its normal level constraints, it becomes unstable. Unstable enchantments must be polished before they can be applied to tools, armor, and equipment.
Unstable Enchanted Books
Creation of Unstable Enchanted Books
When two enchanted books are combined in an anvil and the enchantment surpasses its normal limit, the resulting book turns unstable. These unstable enchanted books cannot be used on equipment directly; they must first be turned into polished enchanted books.
Not every enchantment can turn unstable, and crafting unstable enchanted books is often an expensive endeavor, typically considered end-game content.

Enchantment Polish
Crafting Enchantment Polish
Enchantment polish is used to polish unstable enchanted books, transforming them into polished enchanted books. The crafting process involves:
- Enchantment Polish: Crafted with diamond blocks, lapis blocks and a bottle of enchanting.
Using Enchantment Polish
A polished enchanted book is obtained by applying enchantment polish to an unstable enchanted book in an anvil. The number of enchantment polish required depends on how many levels above the stable limit the book has. For example, an Efficiency VII book, which is two levels above the stable limit for Efficiency, would require 2 enchantment polish.
Polished enchanted books can then be applied to tools, armor, and other equipment, unlike their unstable counterparts.
