Rebalances

The Alinea SMP has various tweaks and changes to rebalance the Vanilla game. Most of these are to ensure that new players cannot rely on the progress of established players to skip ahead to the end game. Rebalances are typically voted on in the Discord by the whole community.

Entities and Mobs

Ender Dragon

The ender dragon is more powerful and more aggressive. She does a lot of explosive damage. The ender dragon in vanilla Minecraft can comfortably be killed with iron armour. To make her a proper end-game boss, the dragon has been buffed enormously. Since she does a lot of explosive damage, players are encouraged to use binding to prevent their items from being blown up after death.

Endermen

Endermen do not drop any experience orbs when killed in the End. Traditionally endermen experience farms have been very popular, even on Alinea. They all but replaced any other type of experience farm. This change makes other experience farms viable again. Regular experience farms have been made more powerful thanks to charged silk touch and orb booster.

Iron Golems

Iron Golems drop iron nuggets instead of iron ingots. This allows players to still get plenty of iron for personal use, but makes it harder to give away iron for free.

Phantoms

Phantoms no longer spawn in the Overworld, and have been moved to the End. This decision was made by the alinea community, as phantoms are extremely annoying in the overworld. Moving them to the End dimension also makes the End more challenging.

Raid Captains

Raid Captains do not give bad omen during a raid. This effectively disables infinite raid farms.

Villagers

  1. All enchanted books obtained through villagers are bought with Lapis Lazuli instead of Emeralds.
  2. Villagers only accepted emerald blocks as payment. They will pay players with regular emeralds. Obtaining items from villagers was typically easier than getting them manually. This change in trades makes players still able to get any item they want from villagers, but encourages them to get the items manually if they need them in bulk.
  3. Any equipment obtained from villagers will be cursed with immutability.
  4. Villagers will only trade golden carrots for diamond blocks.
  5. Curing a villager does not make their trades cheaper.

Zombified Pigmen

  1. Zombified Pigmen do not drop exp when not killed by a player.
  2. Zombified Pigmen do not drop gold ingots. They do still drop golden nuggets.

Items

Anvils

  1. Modifying or repairing an item multiple times in an anvil does not increase its experience cost. In Vanilla Minecraft, even after repairing an item a few times in an anvil, the cost quickly becomes too high. On Alinea, you can keep repairing and enchanting items through anvils forever.
  2. The anvil has no maximum level cost any more. Even if the anvil says “too expensive”, players can still perform the modification, if they have enough levels. If the anvil does not allow the player to take out an item that is “too expensive”, it is because the player does not have the required amount of levels. This allows players to make powerful weapons using the unstable enchanting system.

Chests

  1. The recipe has changed to 4 stripped wood, 4 stripped logs and 1 iron ingot. This to encourage players to use barrels instead.

Rockets

  1. Rockets do not provide propulsion in the End dimension. This stops players who already have an elytra to quickly fly from end city to end city, easily obtaining all elytras.
  2. Rockets are crafted with fire charges instead of gunpowder.
  3. Fire charges can no longer be made with charcoal, only normal coal.
  4. Rockets can be upgraded to level 5 instead of level 3.
